Brief Bio

Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Scranton in Scranton Pennsylvania in 2000 and began his career as an engineer with WEDECO in Northern New Jersey. Ryan joined the Goddard team as a contractor in 2003 supporting the Environmental Safety and Health Division performing various occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and radiation safety duties, including as the safety representative on the Exploration Science Building design team. During this time Ryan worked closely with Curtis Odell on the requirements and logistics for B34.

His company promoted him to project manager and put him in charge of a newly acquired contract at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington D.C. After spending two years working and developing the contract he decided to return to Goddard after accepting a position as a civil servant safety engineer.

As a civil servant, Ryan was the program manager for the electrical safety, control of hazardous energy, confined space and the newly formed fall protection programs. After a year and a half he was promoted to the Senior Safety Engineer position and put in charge of special projects. In 2016 he was named the chair of the Agency’s Electrical Safety Working group which was responsible for developing agency level policy and providing direction to Center subject matter experts. Over the past two years he has been the Safety and Mission Assurance representative on the Space Geodesy Project team headed by Code 61A working to develop the next generation of geodetic sites combining Satellite Laser Ranging, Very Long Baseline Interferometry, DORIS, and GNSS technologies.

Ryan has already begun to assist the division in aspects of safety and facilities. His past experience equips him to be able to interface with FMD on our behalf in addition to being an intermediary between the labs and Code 300 in order to address our needs.
